# Managed Containers (K8s)

> Optidata Managed Containers (K8s) creates Kubernetes clusters from the console in Miami (US1). Cluster management costs $20.00/month per cluster, a high-availability control plane adds $40.00/month, and worker nodes are billed as Cloud Compute instances. Prices as of Oct 6, 2026, Miami (US1), USD.

**You ship containers. We run the control plane.** Managed clusters on the same platform as Cloud Compute, VPC, Block Storage, and GPU. Node pools that scale, upgrades during a maintenance window, and no egress bill on traffic between your services. Available in the console and inside Private Cloud.

## What you get

- **Managed control plane:** Optidata operates the API server, etcd, and the scheduler. Your team receives a kubeconfig and works through the standard Kubernetes API, with no control plane to maintain.
- **Node pools that scale on demand:** Workers are grouped into pools by machine shape, each with a minimum and a maximum. A pool grows when demand rises and returns to its floor once the peak is over.
- **High availability option:** Clusters that cannot tolerate a single point of failure can be created with a redundant control plane.
- **Upgrades in your maintenance window:** Kubernetes versions and patches are applied inside the maintenance window you define, not at a moment chosen for you.
- **Native to the platform:** Services are published through Load Balancers, persistent volumes are backed by Block Storage, and east-west traffic stays inside your VPC.
- **No egress charge on internal traffic:** Traffic between your services on the private network is not metered as egress, so scaling out does not add a line item at the end of the month.

## Who it's for

- **Platform teams:** Microservices and internal platforms without a large SRE bench behind them.
- **Teams leaving DIY K8s:** Keep the Kubernetes API you already build on, drop the weekend on-call for the control plane.
- **AI and batch on containers:** Scale inference workers and batch jobs next to Optidata GPU capacity.
- **Migrations from hyperscalers:** Same manifests, predictable bill, an architect on the migration.

## How it works

1. **Define the cluster:** Region, Kubernetes version, and network. Optidata provisions the control plane.
2. **Size the node pools:** Balanced or Dedicated shapes per pool, with min and max for autoscaling.
3. **Connect and deploy:** Pull the kubeconfig, point kubectl or your CI at it, apply your manifests.
4. **Operate with the platform:** Services get Load Balancers, PVCs get Block Storage, cost and state stay in one console.
