# Snapshots

> Optidata Snapshots are manual point-in-time images of a Cloud Compute instance, taken before an upgrade or deploy and kept until you delete them, billed at $0.05 per GB-month. Scheduled, automatic protection is the separate Backup product. Prices as of Oct 6, 2026, Miami (US1), USD.

## What you get

- **On demand:** You decide when to capture, not a fixed schedule.
- **Pre-change checkpoints:** Snapshot before OS upgrades, big deploys, or risky config changes.
- **Clone & restore:** Spin up a copy for staging or roll back the source instance.
- **You control retention:** Keep snapshots until you delete them.

## How it works

1. **Pick the instance:** Choose the Compute instance to capture.
2. **Create snapshot:** Name it and confirm. The status indicates when the snapshot is ready.
3. **Restore or clone:** Recover the source or launch a new instance from the image.
