Vockan + Optidata Case: the cloud that became an extension of the team to bring the QAD ERP to the Brazilian market
Vockan needed to run a mission-critical ERP at a multinational standard, but didn't yet have a cloud infrastructure team. See how the partnership with Optidata delivered performance, security and governance, and helped Vockan become the only QAD-approved technical cloud partner in the Americas.
Optidata Team
Vockan took on the challenge of bringing QAD’s ERP to the Brazilian market, but needed a cloud at a multinational level without yet having an infrastructure team of its own. Optidata stepped in as the technical arm, from engineering to execution, and the partnership transformed performance, governance and growth.
Every mission-critical operation depends, in the end, on two things: an infrastructure worthy of the product and a partner who is truly in it with you. Vockan had the right ERP in hand, but needed to solve the technical foundation before selling. This case shows how the partnership with Optidata unlocked the first contracts and earned Vockan an unprecedented recognition in the QAD market.
Who Vockan is
Vockan was founded about three years ago, out of a strategic shift at QAD, a global ERP manufacturer for manufacturing. For more than two decades, QAD served mainly large multinationals and even ran its own cloud, with a data center in the United States. When the market changed and the company began targeting mid-sized industries as well, maintaining that structure became too expensive.
That is where the opportunity emerged. Vockan took on the role of bringing QAD’s ERP to the Brazilian market with better commercial terms and, above all, the freedom to choose a local cloud worthy of the product.
“I worked at QAD for 22 years. When the strategy changed, the Vockan opportunity was born: negotiating better terms for the ERP and having the flexibility to seek out a local cloud provider.”
André Koga, Strategic Alliance Director, Vockan
The challenge: running a mission-critical ERP without yet having an infrastructure team
Selling and sustaining QAD’s ERP is not the same as hosting a website. It is a mission-critical operation, with infrastructure requirements at the highest level and certifications such as SOC 2 Type 2. To commercialize the product, Vockan needed a cloud partner that respected exactly those same criteria and service levels.
The problem was that Vockan was still setting up shop. At that moment, there were no cloud infrastructure professionals on staff. The engineering to stand up an environment that demanding clients could audit and trust was missing.
“QAD required that, in order to commercialize the ERP, we had a cloud partner that respected the same criteria and the same service level. That was decisive in the choice.”
Nelson Simões Ribeiro Jr., BPO, Tech. & Dev. Head, Vockan
“When we closed the partnership, Vockan still didn’t have cloud infrastructure professionals on staff. We needed all the expertise and execution at a level well above the market standard.”
Nelson Simões Ribeiro Jr., BPO, Tech. & Dev. Head, Vockan
The solution: a cloud that took on the engineering and grew alongside
Vockan ran due diligence with different providers before deciding. Optidata was chosen because it brought together what QAD’s ERP demanded: multinational-level security with a competitive price for the Brazilian market. At the time, Optidata was also completing the SOC 2 Type 2 certification, which gave Vockan the proof its clients would start to require from then on.
More than delivering servers, Optidata stepped in as part of the team: it took on the infrastructure role in full, from engineering to execution and even participation in technical meetings with the end clients, always transparently.
“We ran due diligence with a few competitors, but we chose Optidata as the best solution for Brazil. In the proof of concept, you demonstrated a level of security as reliable as any multinational provider, at a very competitive price.”
André Koga, Strategic Alliance Director, Vockan
How it was done:
- Proof of concept comparing security, performance and cost
- Validation of the certifications required by QAD and clients, with Optidata’s SOC 2 Type 2
- Infrastructure engineering and operation led by Optidata as the team’s technical arm
- Direct support in technical meetings with Vockan’s clients
- Building a service layer beyond the cloud, with freedom to create and test new environments
“We make a point of visiting the client, understanding their needs and growing together with the partner. That’s how Optidata works.”
Liandro Segalin, co-CEO, Optidata
The results: performance, governance and freedom to grow
Performance
Migrating the ERP to Optidata’s infrastructure brought a real gain in response and latency, sustained by choosing the best data center available in the national market and by a structure optimized for the QAD workload.
“The ERP’s performance within Optidata’s infrastructure was significantly better. We gained in response and in latency.”
Nelson Simões Ribeiro Jr., BPO, Tech. & Dev. Head, Vockan
Governance and autonomy
Today Vockan makes its own infrastructure and product decisions, with Optidata as the technical arm. Before, with the operation centralized at QAD, Vockan had little autonomy over its own infrastructure.
Growth sustained by the partnership
Optidata’s support is what allowed Vockan to close the first contracts in which it sold not only the ERP, but also the infrastructure behind it, including the operation’s most strategic client.
“Without that support from Optidata, we wouldn’t have closed the first clients by also offering our infrastructure. And we wouldn’t have reached our most strategic client.”
Nelson Simões Ribeiro Jr., BPO, Tech. & Dev. Head, Vockan
Technical recognition
With the partnership, Vockan became the only QAD-approved technical cloud partner in the Americas, apart from the manufacturer itself.
“Vockan is the only technical partner in the Americas, apart from QAD itself.”
Nelson Simões Ribeiro Jr., BPO, Tech. & Dev. Head, Vockan
A relationship built on presence
For Vockan, the greatest differentiator is not a tool, but closeness. Direct access to leadership, fast response and the feeling of having one more team inside the house.
“Presence. Optidata, to me, is presence and direct action. It’s as if it were part of my own team.”
Nelson Simões Ribeiro Jr., BPO, Tech. & Dev. Head, Vockan
“Brothers. That’s the word. It captures trust, reciprocity and understanding. It became much more than a signed contract.”
André Koga, Strategic Alliance Director, Vockan

Frequently asked questions
What is Vockan?
Vockan is the company responsible for bringing QAD’s ERP to the Brazilian market. It was born from a strategic shift at QAD, a global ERP manufacturer for manufacturing, with the mission of offering the product with better commercial terms and the freedom to choose a worthy local cloud.
Why did Vockan choose Optidata as its cloud?
Optidata was chosen after due diligence with several providers because it brought together multinational-level security with a competitive price for Brazil, in addition to completing the SOC 2 Type 2 certification that Vockan’s clients would start to require.
What is a cloud partner for a mission-critical ERP?
It is a provider that delivers far beyond servers: it takes on the engineering and operation of the infrastructure, ensures auditable certifications and service levels and takes part in technical meetings with clients, acting as an extension of the team.
What is the SOC 2 Type 2 certification and why does it matter for an ERP?
SOC 2 Type 2 is a certification that attests to security, availability and confidentiality controls over time. For a mission-critical ERP, it is the proof that demanding clients ask for before trusting their data to the infrastructure.
Is Vockan an approved QAD partner?
Yes. Through the partnership with Optidata, Vockan became the only QAD-approved technical cloud partner in the Americas, apart from the manufacturer itself.
