The short answer
Most AWS workloads move to Optidata without code changes. EC2 instances become Cloud Compute (Dedicated or Balanced), EBS volumes become Block Storage on OPTI-FLASH-NVME or OPTI-COLD-HDD, S3 buckets move to S3-compatible Object Storage, EKS clusters to Managed Containers (K8s), and RDS for MySQL or PostgreSQL to Managed Databases. Services without a direct match are named in the migration plan before anything moves.
Self-serve Optidata runs in Miami (US1), which is a different location from AWS us-east-1 in Northern Virginia. Data that must stay in Brazil runs on Optidata Private Cloud, not on the self-serve platform.

What maps to what
Each AWS service and the Optidata product that receives it. Where nothing matches, the row says so.
| AWS | Optidata | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon EC2, general purpose (m7i, c7i) | Cloud Compute, Dedicated (AMD) | Dedicated vCPU. The price comparison matches this line to m7i. |
| Amazon EC2, burstable (t3) | Cloud Compute, Balanced (Intel) | Shared vCPU for steady workloads. The price comparison matches this line to t3. |
| Amazon EC2 GPU instances (G7e) | GPU Cloud, NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell | Same card as G7e, but RAM and local disk differ, so the shapes are not identical. |
| Amazon EBS gp3 | Block Storage, OPTI-FLASH-NVME | NVMe volumes you attach and expand. |
| Amazon EBS st1 and sc1 | Block Storage, OPTI-COLD-HDD | NL-SAS capacity tier. |
| EBS snapshots | Snapshots | On-demand point-in-time images, billed per GB stored. |
| AWS Backup | Backup | Scheduled backups, billed per schedule plus the GB they store. |
| Amazon S3 | Object Storage | S3-compatible buckets, so S3 tools and SDKs keep working with an Optidata endpoint. |
| Amazon EKS | Managed Containers (K8s) | Managed control plane per cluster, with an optional high-availability control plane. |
| Amazon RDS for MySQL and PostgreSQL | Managed Databases | MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB, with replicas, scheduled backups and a private network by default. |
| Amazon RDS for SQL Server | Private Cloud | SQL Server runs only on Optidata Private Cloud, sized with an architect. |
| Amazon RDS for Oracle | No Optidata equivalent | Oracle is not offered as a managed database. |
| Elastic Load Balancing (ALB, NLB) | Load Balancer | Health checks and TLS termination, at a flat monthly price. |
| Amazon VPC | VPC Networks | Private networks between your instances. |
| Security groups | Security (platform firewall) | Ingress and egress rules across your fleet. |
| Elastic IP addresses | IP Addresses | Reserved public IPs that stay with you when instances change. |
| Amazon Route 53 (DNS hosting) | DNS | Domains and records managed next to your instances and load balancers. |
| Regions us-east-1 and sa-east-1 | Miami (US1), or Private Cloud in Brazil | Self-serve runs in Miami only. Brazilian data residency is a Private Cloud offer. |
What does not map one to one
- Proprietary managed services (serverless functions, queues, proprietary databases and the like) have no one-to-one Optidata product. The migration plan names the replacement for each one before you approve anything.
- Amazon RDS for Oracle has no managed equivalent at Optidata.
- The self-serve platform runs in one region, Miami (US1). Multi-region designs on AWS need a Private Cloud conversation.
Step by step
The same method Optidata engineers use on every migration. Each stage ends with something you can read and approve before the next one starts.
Assessment
Inventory what runs today: EC2 instances and their sizes, EBS volumes, S3 buckets, RDS databases, load balancers, DNS zones, and the outbound traffic on your AWS bill. Map every item with the table above and price the target in the calculator before deciding anything.
Optidata engineers can run the assessment with you. You get a map of what you run today and what it will cost to run on Optidata, before any commitment.
Migration plan
A named architect designs the target architecture, the move sequence, the rollback plan and the cutover window. Nothing moves until you have read and approved it.
Data transfer
Data is replicated ahead of the cutover and kept in sync, so the final switch is short. Databases move with native dump and restore or replication, buckets with any S3-compatible tool pointed at the Optidata endpoint, and volumes as block or file copies.
Plan for AWS egress on the way out: data leaving AWS is billed at its outbound transfer rates.
At the AWS list egress rates in this comparison, moving 10 TB out of AWS costs about $891.00, with the 100 GB monthly allowance applied once. Check with AWS whether any transfer credit applies to your exit before you budget it.
Cutover
Inside the window you approved: final sync, the DNS change, and traffic moving to the new environment. Because data was replicated ahead of time, the window covers the final switch only, usually minutes to a few hours rather than days.
Rollback stays armed until you sign off on the new environment.
Validation and sign-off
Integrity is verified on both sides, the application is tested against the new environment, and the source stays untouched until you sign off.
The migration ends when the workload is stable in production, not when the cutover finishes: the same team stays after go-live for monitoring and tuning, with the NOC and SOC on shift 24/7.
What it costs
One production server with a load balancer and a bucket: a dedicated 4 vCPU / 16 GB instance, 200 GB of block storage, 5 TB of outbound traffic a month, a public IPv4, one load balancer and 1 TB in object storage. Optidata in Miami (US1) against AWS in us-east-1, on-demand list prices captured July 31, 2026.
| Line | Optidata / month | AWS / month |
|---|---|---|
| Instanceohpd-4c-16gb-amd on Optidata, m7i.xlarge on AWS | $105.85 | $147.17 |
| Block storage, 200 GBOPTI-FLASH-NVME on Optidata, EBS gp3 on AWS | $20.00 | $16.00 |
| Outbound traffic, 5 TBIncluded in the Optidata plan; AWS tiered rates after the 100 GB account allowance | $0.00included | $441.00 |
| Public IPv4The first IP ships with the Optidata instance; AWS bills every public IPv4 | $0.00included | $3.65 |
| Load balancerBase monthly price; AWS capacity units (LCU) not included | $9.00 | $16.43 |
| Object storage, 1 TBStorage only; S3 request charges not included | $20.00 | $23.00 |
| Total | $154.85 | $647.254.18x the Optidata total |
- Miami (US1) and us-east-1 are different locations, and m7i.xlarge and the Optidata plan are not identical machines: this compares list prices for comparable sizes, not performance.
- AWS figures exclude load balancer capacity units, S3 requests, NAT, support plans, Savings Plans and negotiated discounts. Each of those changes the AWS total.
Your stack will differ. Price it in the calculator, which uses the same catalog as the console and shows the AWS and Google Cloud reference next to it, or read every rate on the price list.
FAQ
Is Optidata cheaper than AWS?
On list prices captured July 31, 2026, AWS costs more than Optidata on 14 of 14 plan sizes compared, at 2.60x to 7.74x the Optidata monthly total. For a dedicated 4 vCPU / 16 GB server with 200 GB and 5 TB out, AWS m7i.xlarge costs $604.17 a month and Optidata $125.85. On unit rates AWS is lower on some items, such as gp3 block storage and the public IPv4; the full comparison lists them.
What does it cost to move my data out of AWS?
At the AWS list egress rates in this comparison, moving 10 TB out of AWS costs about $891.00, with the 100 GB monthly allowance applied once. Check with AWS whether any transfer credit applies to your exit before you budget it.
How long does a migration from AWS take?
A single workload can move in days. A larger estate usually moves in phased waves over a few weeks. The assessment produces a dated plan before anything moves.
Do I have to rewrite my applications to leave AWS?
In most cases, no. Instances, volumes, networks and databases rehost onto Optidata equivalents without code changes. Where a proprietary AWS service has no direct match, the migration plan names the replacement before you approve anything.
Is Optidata Miami (US1) the same location as AWS us-east-1?
No. Optidata self-serve runs in Miami (US1); AWS us-east-1 is in Northern Virginia. They are different places, so plan latency and data location with that in mind.
Can my data stay in Brazil after leaving AWS?
Yes, on Optidata Private Cloud, which runs in Optidata-owned data centers in Brazil. The self-serve platform runs only in Miami (US1).
What replaces Amazon RDS?
RDS for MySQL and PostgreSQL moves to Optidata Managed Databases, which also offers MongoDB. SQL Server runs on Optidata Private Cloud. Oracle is not offered as a managed database.
Does Optidata Object Storage work with S3 tools?
Yes. Buckets are S3-compatible, so the S3 tools and SDKs you use today work with an Optidata endpoint.
