The short answer

AWS costs more than Optidata on all 14 plan sizes compared, between 2.60x and 7.74x the Optidata monthly total (3.95x at the median).

For a dedicated 4 vCPU / 16 GB server with 200 GB of block storage and 5 TB of outbound traffic a month, AWS (m7i.xlarge) costs $604.17 and Optidata (ohpd-4c-16gb-amd) $125.85. Outbound traffic is $441.00 of the AWS total, because AWS bundles no transfer into the instance.

Where AWS is cheaper

On plan totals, nowhere: Optidata is cheaper on all 14 sizes compared.

On unit rates, AWS is lower on:

  • Block storage, NVMe/SSD: $0.08 on AWS against $0.10 at Optidata. gp3, with 3,000 IOPS and 125 MB/s included. Provisioned IOPS ($0.005 each) and throughput above the baseline are billed on separate meters.
  • Additional public IPv4: $3.65 on AWS against $5.00 at Optidata. $0.005/h on every public IPv4, including the instance's own.
  • Anti-DDoS, per instance: included on AWS against $10.00 at Optidata. Shield Standard included. Shield Advanced is $3,000/month on a 1-year commitment.

Where Optidata is cheaper

Optidata has the lower monthly total on all 14 plan sizes compared, and the lower rate on: Block storage, HDD; Object storage, per GB; Object storage, 1 TB bucket; Load balancer; Kubernetes control plane; Managed backup; and Windows Server, per vCPU.

Outbound traffic

AWSNo outbound traffic bundled into the instance price. 100 GB a month free per account.Tiered: $0.09/GB at first, falling to $0.05/GB at higher volume.

Egress is tiered on AWS and GCP, so the marginal rate falls as volume grows. The account-level free allowance is added to whatever the instance plan already includes.

Storage and platform rates

Every rate outside compute and traffic, at list, in USD. "No base fee" means AWS bills that cost on another meter, not that it is free.

Regions

Optidata self-serve runs in Miami (US1). This comparison prices AWS in us-east-1 (N. Virginia). They are different locations, so the tables compare list prices, not latency, hardware or a shared site.

Workloads that must keep data in Brazil run on Optidata Private Cloud, in Optidata-owned data centers in Brazil (OPD-BR1, OPD-BR2 and OPD-BR3-IA), designed and priced with an architect rather than from the public list.

Support

Optidata. Every request is answered by a person, every day of the year. The NOC and SOC run 24 hours a day, with an average first response under 8 minutes.

AWS. AWS's support plans are not part of this dataset. Check AWS's own support pricing before comparing totals for a production workload.

Competitor list prices captured
Competitor prices re-checked on the vendor pages
Optidata plan prices, from the console catalog

The re-check reopened 174 competitor price points on the vendors' public pages:171 matched, 1 was corrected to the published rate, and 2 could not be reconfirmed because no public page lists them, so they stay as captured.

Method

  • Closest published shape that meets or exceeds both the vCPU and the RAM of the Optidata plan. Where a provider has no shape at that size, the next size up is used and flagged as oversized.
  • On-demand list price, Linux, no commitment, no reserved instance, no savings plan, no sustained-use or spot discount.
  • Hourly rates are converted at 730 h/month, the same convention the Optidata console bills on.
  • Monthly totals add a reference block storage volume and reference outbound traffic to each instance, net of whatever disk and traffic the plan already bundles. Egress is tiered on AWS and GCP, so the marginal rate falls as volume grows. The account-level free allowance is added to whatever the instance plan already includes.

Sources

The locations differ: Optidata self-serve runs in Miami (US1), and each competitor is priced in the region named above. This compares list prices, not latency, hardware or performance, and no two SKUs in it are identical.

Caveats

  • On-demand list prices, Linux, no usage commitment, no reserved instances and no spot. Negotiated discounts change the result.
  • AWS, GCP and Oracle bundle neither disk nor transfer into the instance price. DigitalOcean, Vultr and Magalu do. The total-cost view normalizes that.
  • AWS in sa-east-1 (Sao Paulo) averages 1.6x the us-east-1 price on the same families. GCP in southamerica-east1 applies a 1.5874x multiplier.
  • AWS and GCP load balancers carry a traffic-based component that is not part of the base monthly comparison.
  • Object storage on AWS, GCP and Oracle bills per request, which is not part of the per-GB rate.
